The Bugatti in the Swamp

November 18, 2009 - Shock and awe. Those were the only words to describe the appalling fate of the French objet d'art known as the BUGATTI VEYRON, a $1.5 million-plus vehicle that was unceremoniously driven into a swamp by a distracted driver, no thanks to a cursed pelican. One of only about 300 ever made, the Veyron is a tour de force that really can't be compared to other street-legal vehicles; it's more in the class of Gulfstreams and Cessnas. With a 1001-horsepower quad-turbocharged W16 engine, it can get you from zero to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. That's whiplash territory for you and me. Sure, there may be a bit of Schadenfreude at seeing one of the haves in a bit of a bind, but seeing the Veyron in the murky depths is like watching a tagging crew desecrate the Pieta. - Liz Kim
